If I could liken the Street Fighter franchise to any fairy tale prop I would compare it directly to the poison apple. On the surface you have the juicy succulence of superb generational leaps in graphics, a memorable roster of larger than life characters and the best and most fluent gameplay in the genre. As with all poisons there will be those that are immune to its toxicity with those at the higher end of the competitive brackets shoving the bad out of the way in favour of their next meal ticket while the lower and mid end will feel the potency ten fold.

A new roster update comprises of a nice selection of characters from various series in the Street Fighter universe, as well as two new ones exclusive to Super. Juri is a welcome addition with a quickness that many other characters are lacking, and Hakan is a grappler covered in oil that brings more depth to his style of character. The gameplay itself is pretty much the same with a lot of small tweaks and balancing changes that aren’t worth trying to cover.

One of the major changes, though, is the ability to choose one of two Ultras this time around, similar to Super Arts in the ‘III’ series. I found that a lot of the new Ultras are hit or miss, though some are at least somewhat more useful than the original. For all of the newer stuff that was added, the Challenge Mode feels like a missed opportunity to instruct to those unfamiliar to the Street Fighter franchise.

It simply doesn’t put together the things you learn beforehand into practice, and really it’s just a series of trials that may or may not be useful to players. Ultimately, I don’t understand why it isn’t more like a tutorial and less like it is now. These games have gotten a lot of newcomers within the last year, and it would have been nice to be able to have some non-fighting game enthusiasts have a means to pick the game up a little easier.

Instead the Challenge Mode will ultimately confuse these people. Most people who pick Super Street Fighter IV up will undoubtedly be playing a lot of matches online and after spending the better part of 10 hours playing around ranked matches, it all feels like Capcom really dropped the ball once again. To someone who plays a great deal of fighters and wants to have the best experience possible, the amount of lag and connection issues become a really big problem that will most likely go unfixed.

Here’s a few things I noticed about the game. In ranked matches, you can see the opponent’s name before the match and kick them or reject the challenge. This allows you to cherry pick who you fight and negates the entire purpose of a ranked match. In ranked matches well, all matches there is no double blind character select. This means the optimum strategy is often to wait until the opponent chooses first so you can counter-pick.

This is a very annoying situation. When lag inevitably happens in an online fighting game, there are different ways to handle it. Some SF4 matches I played had large input delay, maybe as high as 15 frames. This is the time between your button press and seeing the effect happen.

My absolute worst experience online came from my ranked match much better than playing just about anyone online in Street Fighter IV did.

If you played games online you have probably had at least one experience of bad matchmaking. Either you were playing someone way below your level or someone who is way out of your league. And you know almost from the start of the match if it is one or the other. Sometimes you can even tell in the lobby when you are waiting for the match to start.

You will see all high scores and prestige of the other team and look at your team thinking well this isn’t going to go well. Street Fighter 4 used a point system and the game would try to match you with someone who was close to your points. The problem was that only worked when people of the same point level was online. If not you could end up playing someone at a lower level. And if you are thinking that is an easy win, that was not always the case. When you play online you have to worry about lag and in a game like street fighter there are characters that are good against other characters so losses still happen.

And when you lose to someone way below you you lose a lot of points which could put you with other low level people and you need a streak to get back to a better level. For call of duty it was team balancing in ranked matches. This was more challenging as you were now trying to balance 6 people instead of one vs one. There were different levels of prestige in ranked Call of duty, such as bronze, silver, and gold.

I’m using a fightpad and I’m fairing pretty well. And if you can’t even get past projectiles then you need to learn to adapt. A good player knows how to cope with all situations- including fireball spam. Wait, how do you even know the majority are using fightsticks? You just sound like a sore loser. This icon indicates a proper P2P connection. On the CFN World Map, you can see the location from which you are playing–indicated by the red target icon. When searching for matches, the game factors the distance between your location and your opponent’s location.

For any other results, try adjusting various game settings. Please ensure your opponents are not having such issues.

The touchscreen does not benefit from the joystick function nearly enough and directional finger slides would allow for easier execution of moves not intended to be excruciatingly difficult to input. But if your just looking for a somewhat deep fighter on your phone and are fine in practice mode most of the time this will be a gem for you as it is for me.
